A Touch Mortal

A Touch Mortal
Author: Leah Clifford
Published by GreenWillow Books
Pages: 432
My Rating: 4/5 stars

Summary: (From Goodreads)
  Eden didn't expect Az.
Not his saunter down the beach toward her. Not his unbelievable pick-up line. Not the instant, undeniable connection. And not his wings.
Yeah.
So long, happily-ever-after.
Now trapped between life and death, cursed to spread chaos with her every touch, Eden could be the key in the eternal struggle between heaven and hell. All because she gave her heart to one of the Fallen, an angel cast out of heaven.
She may lose everything she ever had. She may be betrayed by those she loves most. But Eden will not be a pawn in anyone else's game. Her heart is her own.
And that's only the beginning of the end.

My Review:
How would I describe A Touch Mortal? Two words: wickedly weird. Yep. This book was so weird, such a complex but intriguing book. A Touch Mortal was unique and original.

The world in this book was so complex, and dark, and not to mention awesome! The world is also on the gritty side, but it was fascinating! It does pay a little attention to angels and the Fallen, but there's so much more to the world. It was so unique and original, and I cannot even begin to think about where Leah Clifford got this awesome idea. There's angel lore, but also a special power called "Touch," and plenty of other creative bits and pieces. It's weird, but wicked and dark and addicting!

I do have to knock off a star because for about half of the book, I was sooo confused. A Touch Mortal had such a complex world, and nothing is ever really explained. I also found that at the start and for certain other parts in this book, it just skipped from thing to thing, leaving me in the dust. This book requires lots of re-reading passages. But I also found with the world, the way it was built, how complex it was, it was pretty much better for nothing to be explained. It was much better to figure it out yourself, because it's so complex...explaining it would just blow everything into pieces, and I would have never understood it.

This book had a stellar plot...twists and turns.....bam! This way and that!

A Touch Mortal also had CRAZY but awesome characters. They were all so intriguing and fascinating....I have never met so many interesting but complex characters in one book! Eden was a refreshing main character...she did not answer to anybody, and she was 100% her own person. I loved that because no matter what, she never melted under the gaze of Az, or any of the other characters.

I loved all the characters. Az, Gabriel, Adam, Jared, Luke, Libby, Kristen, and more were all layered, well-thought out characters that dig deep. All the characters were very unique....and I have to say, I have a bit of a crush on Az. Who wouldn't?

Folks, this is not your typical paranormal read. It's a strong and absolutely addictive debut novel. I can't wait to see what Leah Clifford writes next!

Anything described as wickedly weird is something that I just have to read!
