Summary: (From Goodreads)
In Beatrice Prior's dystopian Chicago, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue—Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is—she can't have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.

During the highly competitive initiation that follows, Beatrice renames herself Tris and struggles to determine who her friends really are—and where, exactly, a romance with a sometimes fascinating, sometimes infuriating boy fits into the life she's chosen. But Tris also has a secret, one she's kept hidden from everyone because she's been warned it can mean death. And as she discovers a growing conflict that threatens to unravel her seemingly perfect society, she also learns that her secret might help her save those she loves . . . or it might destroy her.

Debut author Veronica Roth bursts onto the literary scene with the first book in the Divergent series—dystopian thrillers filled with electrifying decisions, heartbreaking betrayals, stunning consequences, and unexpected romance.

My Review:
Well.....I am speechless. This book is amazing. It's definitely been added to my ultimate favourites-oh-my-gosh-love-this-book-to-death (aka The Shelf) list, right up there with Harry Potter, The Hunger Games, and Vampire Academy. This is definitely the best book I have read this year.

Veronica Roth is an incredible writer. Her words are ones you'll hungrily gobble up, wanting more and more and more. There's something just so addictive about her writing. She's also an amazing story teller. Divergent was riveting and intense. I loved it to bits. There was not one moment where my heart wasn't pounding. Whether it was the action, the sweet romance, the character interactions, or simply descriptions.

This was one of the most fascinating societies to learn about. I found it highly entertaining learning about this dystopic society that has divided into five factions. It was quite interesting to see how the different societies functioned for people in their daily lives. Without being too spoilery, I will say that Dauntless played the main faction in this book, but Abnegation was a big part, too. I loved learning about the Dauntless; it was such an interesting faction, and by far a great aspect of the story. The daily activities, the initiation, even the tattoos, awesome!

Those characters! I loved the characters in Divergent; they were so well-developed and interesting characters! Beautifully crafted, they could just walk off the pages. One of my favourite characters was Tris's mother; I watched the video with Veronica Roth talking about Divergent, in which she talked about Tris's mother.....I totally agree with her. Besides that, Tris herself was a fantastic main character. I loved her personality- she cared about others, but totally kicked butt and seemed utterly fearless is the process, but you knew she was scared, since there was an honest side to her, too. And you can't forget to mention Four. I completely fell in love with him! He's the hottest, most dream like boy I have encountered in a book for a long time. I want more of him!

I finished this book in about a day! All 487 pages of it! Trust me, Divergent is one to read! (Go pick it up.....NOW!!!)
